The Meadow

This seven-acre, native warm-season grass meadow is home to an array of plant species & wildlife.

About The Meadow

Ground first broke on the riverside meadow at Lakeshore Park in the spring of 2022, with the goal of achieving a mature meadow, representative of the once-vast grasslands of the Valley region in the coming years. As one of the few large-scale meadows in the city of Knoxville, the riverside meadow provides critical pollinator habitat for the Park and reduces maintenance costs.
While the riverside meadow matures, work is underway to create another meadow across from the upper parking lot at the original trailhead.

Plants in the Meadow

A custom seed mix of native grasses and flowers make up the riverside meadow. Some of these plants include Blue False Indigo, Ohio Spiderwort, Tall Coreopsis, Purple Coneflower, Black Eyed Susan, and Mountain Mint. The result is a continuously changing and colorful setting for Park users to experience throughout the seasons.
