NEW TRAIL SECTION, PIERS AND BOARDWALK OPEN AT LAKESHORE PARK

The Lakeshore Park Board of Directors announced the opening of several new waterfront area improvements on April 13, 2018.

Fourth Creek Trail Section

A new trail section has opened along the banks of Fourth Creek. The new trail section is approximately 1750 feet long and is fully lighted with several seating areas. It connects at both ends to the main perimeter trail and offers a wooded alternative to the existing trail, which will remain in place.

Fourth Creek Pier, Picnic Area and Water Access

A 50-foot fishing pier, a 250 foot long seating and picnic area and a water access point have been added on a scenic cove on Fourth Creek, near the southwest corner of the park.  The new trail leads to these features and opens up an area of the park that has previously been inaccessible.

Boardwalk

A 300-foot shaded boardwalk now runs through riverfront woods and a natural marsh filled with native plants. The boardwalk runs along the bank of the Tennessee River, half way between the upper and lower baseball fields.

River Pier and Overlook

A 90-foot elevated pier has been constructed from the boardwalk to the river’s edge, with an overlook and seating area above a long lagoon and natural riparian woodlands. The pier is accessible from the boardwalk.

Lakeshore Park is owned by the City of Knoxville and managed by the Lakeshore Park non-profit corporation. All of the improvements at the park, including these new additions, have been funded through generous contributions from friends and supporters of the park.  To make a gift to Lakeshore Park, click here.
